What ClearLease does

A shared register of tenancy history, contributed by the landlords and letting agencies who use it, searchable by its members with the applicant's consent. It is not a credit bureau, it is not registered as one, and a search result is not advice about whether to let to somebody. A search that returns no record is not a clean record.

Prices, payment and cancellation

Current prices are on the pricing page, in rands and inclusive of all charges. Clear Lease is not registered for VAT, so no VAT is charged. Payment is taken by PayFast; ClearLease never sees card details. Each term is a single payment and nothing renews automatically. Cancellation and refunds are covered by clause 9 of the Terms and Conditions, including the seven-day right under section 44 of the ECT Act where it applies.

Complaints and disputes

Write to info@clearlease.org first. Nothing in the terms prevents you going straight to a competent court, the National Consumer Commission, the Information Regulator or an applicable ombud, and we are not a member of any self-regulatory body whose code would bind this.

Information Officer

Under POPIA the Information Officer of a private body is the head of that body. Clauses 1.4 and 8.1 of the terms send privacy requests here.

In short: you may ask whether we hold personal information about you and for a copy of it, have it corrected or deleted where the Act allows, withdraw a consent, or object to processing. Confirmation and correction are free, and no membership is needed — these are statutory rights, not features. You may also complain to the Information Regulator directly, without coming to us first.

The full notice sets out each right, what it costs, how long we take and what a refusal must contain. It also records that this site tracks nobody — no analytics, no advertising pixel, no third-party script — which is why clause 5.5 produces no cookie banner.

PAIA manual

The manual section 51 of the Promotion of Access to Information Act requires, and which clause 1.1 of the terms says is available through this website.

It names the head of the body (as above), lists the records ClearLease holds — tenancy records, searches, identity checks, accounts, consents and access logs — and sets out how to request one, what it costs and how long we take.

Two things worth knowing before you ask. A request to a private body must say which right you are seeking to exercise or protect and why the record is needed for it; section 50 requires that, and a request without it cannot be granted. And if you want your own personal information, POPIA is usually the shorter route — confirmation is free and so is a correction.

This notice is kept current. Where it conflicts with an older copy you have saved, the version on this page is the one that applies.
